Automatic Weighing for Frozen Shrimp

HLunPACK recently completed the delivery of a new automatic weighing and box filling system, together with customized packaging boxes, for a frozen food manufacturer packaging frozen shrimp.

The system uses a multihead combination weigher to automatically measure and combine portions according to the required target weight. Once the target portion is reached, the frozen shrimp is collected and discharged into the packaging tray positioned below the filling section.

Automatic Collection and Box Filling

After weighing, the frozen shrimp is automatically collected and discharged into each packaging tray. The filled trays are transferred continuously by conveyor to the next workstation, where operators complete the final lid placement and packing process.

This configuration combines automatic weighing and tray filling with manual final closing. It is a practical solution for food factories that want to improve weighing and filling efficiency without adding unnecessary automation to every downstream step.

Customized Tray-Style Lid-and-Base Packaging Boxes

HLunPACK also supplied the packaging boxes used for this project. The package adopts a tray-style two-piece lid-and-base structure, consisting of a rigid bottom tray for product filling and a separate top lid for final closing.

The box dimensions were coordinated with the filling and conveyor system so that the packaging could move smoothly through the production process. The rigid box format also provides a clean, organized presentation for boxed frozen seafood.

Equipment and Packaging Developed as One System

For an automatic weighing and box filling project, packaging efficiency depends on more than the weighing machine alone. Product characteristics, target weight, discharge method, box dimensions, conveyor layout and final packing method all need to work together.

By supplying both the automatic weighing equipment and the customized packaging boxes, HLunPACK was able to coordinate the equipment and packaging around the customer’s actual production process before delivery.

A Practical Solution for Frozen Food Packaging

Although this project was developed for boxed frozen shrimp, the same weighing and tray-filling concept can be adapted for other frozen and portion-controlled food products, including seafood, meat products, prepared foods, snack foods and dried foods.

The final configuration can be adjusted according to product characteristics, target filling weight, package dimensions and production requirements.
